On the edge of the town lie the famous Dolmen Caves, the most famous in Europe. They consist of funerary constructions dating from 2.500BC. They were discovered in 1905 by a local gardener and are now open to the public. The impressive caves are easy to get to and there is ample car parking close by.
The very first thing the eye beholds as you start down towards the Antequera plains by way of the
N-331 (A-45) expressway is a broad meadowland like an immense tapestry of different shades of green or ochre,
depending on the season of your visit. Located right in the centre of Andalucia. Set in a rich, fertile plain is
the market town of Antequera. It has been inhabited since prehistoric times and every generation, including the
Romans have made their mark here. Some of the most important Roman Villa ruins have been discovered here. Antequera
is near where the main road from Málaga to Granada leaves the Sevilla road after you have come right up the
mountains from Málaga. Its bus links with Málaga are excellent and it may serve as an alternative first or last
night if you are using Málaga airport. Antequera has a rich historical and artistic heritage. It was used by King
Fernando, the Catholic, as the base of operations during his Granada campaigns. El Torcal Park Nature Reserve is
known for it's unusual limestone rock formations. Located about 30 km north of Málaga city in the direction of
Antequera. Antequera is a city situated approximately 53 kilometres north of Malaga in the Cost del Sol region of
Spain. The city is steeped in history and has many relics which were witness to the rich Spanish history, including
